Testing the Impact on Safety

Continuing our week of highlighting safety, today we want to shine our spotlight on our Escalator Comb Plate Impact Fixture Test Kit.

The adjustment of the combplate impact switches on all escalators is important in order to ensure safe and reliable operation of the equipment. This tool has been designed to make the adjustment and calibration process easier, and accurate.

This leads directly to greater safety for the riding public.

Lift Aide instead of First Aide

Continuing our week of highlighting safety, today we want to introduce you to something we designed for ourselves, and now provide to the industry.

This is our Lift Aide system, which we developed to prevent strains or injury when lifting heavy escalator controllers in or out of escalator pits. The Lift Aide is certified with a lift capacity of 200 pounds, providing an easier means of removing heavy controllers for escalator servicing.

How does it work? A support bracket is permanently installed inside the escalator pit. The Lift-Aide easily slides into this support bracket, providing a safe and almost effortless means of lifting the controller out for service.

Extra brackets and hardware are available, so you can install them into all of the difficult units you have in service. That way only one Lift Aide is needed, as it can easily be moved from unit to unit.

Test It, Don’t Guess It

Accidents are never expected. But here at KONE Spares, we firmly believe that they are preventable. No one wants an accident to happen, and we are committed to maintaining the mindset of preventing it from happening.

We are absolutely committed to safety for everyone — your teams, our teams, the riding public, and everyone in between.

That’s why, when we develop or discover tools to help make our lives safer, we also share them with our customers.

This week we’re going to promote some of these tools … not just because we want to sell them, but because we want to make sure people know they’re available. We use these ourselves and encourage you to as well.

Today’s example is the Antec maximum load determinator, a brilliantly simple device that can determine and document that a lifting point can reliably support a specific capacity. Our motto regarding this is, “Test it, don’t guess it!”

So, what does it do?

It breaks.

Yes, it breaks. On purpose.

Watch the video below to see why this is a good thing.

Slimline Power Stop for Escalators

For safety’s sake, let’s make sure escalator passengers can find the stop button in an emergency. In some older units that can be a challenge, so here’s a solution.

Our new power stop and start stations are an excellent safety upgrade for your escalators and auto walks.  By placing the Slimline Power Stop station at the top of the escalator handrail newel, it provides passengers with easier access and greater visibility.
